Penn Confirms July 29 Closure Date for Hollywood Casino Joliet Riverboat Casino

Penn Entertainment has announced that its Hollywood Casino Joliet riverboat property in Illinois will close on July 29 ahead of its land-based replacement opening in August.

A riverboat casino has been operational at the location since 1992, with Penn acquiring the facility in 2005. A fire destroyed the older property in 2009 during renovation work. Penn then rebuilt the casino and relaunched it under its Hollywood Casino brand.

However, the property is now set to close for good, with a ready-made replacement set to open within weeks. The new $185 million land-based property plans to begin welcoming customers from August 11, pending customary regulatory approvals.

All gaming operations at the riverboat property will continue normal operating hours until closing at 5:59 a.m. on July 29. The hotel adjacent to the casino will accept reservations until July 26.

Unused chips from the riverboat can be cashed in at the new Hollywood Casino Joliet cage until December 31, 2025.

Penn CEO Pledges ‘Best-in-Class’ Player Experience

“As we transition to our new state-of-the-art facility, we reflect on 30+ years of operating in Joliet,” Penn CEO and President Jay Snowden said. “We look forward to continuing to create best-in-class experiences for our loyal customers, welcoming new guests, and supporting this community for years to come.”

Part of the Rock Run Collection, the new Hollywood Casino Joliet will be placed adjacent to the Interstate 80 and Interstate 55 interchange southwest of downtown Chicago

Customers can look forward to approximately 1,000 slots and 43 live table games, baccarat room and an ESPN BET sportsbook. Other facilities will include several bars and restaurants, an event center and around 1,330 parking spaces.

“We are incredibly excited about our future at the new location, which enhances our ability to serve guests and creates a top entertainment, gaming and dining attraction in the region,” said Todd George, executive vice president of operations at Penn.
