The Parx Casino in Bensalem township, Pennsylvania is now screening anyone who enters for firearms. It is asking that anyone who is carrying a gun to exit the facility.
The metal detectors are installed at all three entrances. Security personnel can also search bags for firearms as well. The casino contacted the Bensalem Police Department about its plans to install metal detectors, and they were installed September 17.
William McVey, public safety director of the township, said he totally approves. “We very much support them in this.” He added, “This is a proactive measure that can prevent an incident in the casino involving a firearm.”
In addition, the casino has for several years posted signs asking patrons not to bring firearms into the facility.
This makes Parx the fourth casino in the Keystone State to screen patrons for firearms, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The others include Rivers Philadelphia, Rivers Pittsburgh, and Live! Philadelphia.
Casino spokeswoman Carrie Nork Minelli, commented, “This is for the safety and security of our guests and employees.” She added, “Following the lead of the Philadelphia casinos and other large attractions in the area, we have put in metal detectors that are calibrated to sense firearms or other metal weapons but not bother keys or phones.”
