The Meadows Racetrack & Casino near Pittsburgh plans to add 250-300 jobs, including roughly 100 full-time positions, as it continues to draw more customers with banquets, conferences, concerts and other special events.
The jobs being added are on the casino side of the business some 15 miles south of Pittsburgh. About a third will be food-and-beverage workers, and about a third of the overall employees to be hired will work more than 30 hours a week, which is what the casino considers full-time.
About a quarter of the new hires will be part-timers working 20 to 30 hours, with the rest being “on call.” meaning they’ll be brought on to staff summer concerts, boxing and mixed martial arts shows.
Meanwhile, Meadows essentially became a casino-hotel last week with the opening of the 155-room Hyatt Place Pittsburgh South/Meadows Racetrack & Casino. The 155-room hotel, owned by Hyatt Hotels Corporation, FFC Capital Corp. and Crescent Hotels & Resorts, is connected to the Meadows casino by an enclosed walkway bridge.
“Hyatt Place Pittsburgh South/Meadows Racetrack & Casino is located in a very desirable area, and we’re looking forward to creating a positive travel experience for each and every guest that walks through our doors,” said General Manager Gabriel Perez at the hotel opening. “With the convenience of having access to the 24-hour casino, as well the casual atmosphere and practical amenities offered by the Hyatt Place brand, we are confident that this hotel will be a refreshing new choice for business and leisure travelers visiting Washington County.”
