Pennsylvania Sees $46.3 million in Sports Betting Handle in June

According to figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, more than 40 percent of an about $46.3 million sports betting handle in June was wagered online. Only one sportsbook app was available all month and two others were available for about a week. For June, $27 million came from the eight physical sportsbooks in the state and $19.3 million in wagers were made online.

Online gambling made an instant impact in Pennsylvania as online betting accounted for about 40 percent of an about $46.3 million sports betting handle in June.

The figures come from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and show that $27 million in bets were made at the eight physical sportsbooks in the state and $19.3 million in wagers were made online. Those figures come as only one online sportsbook— SugarHouse Sportsbook—was online all month and two others (Parx and BetRivers) were only open for about a week.

That still propelled the state to a new record for handle at more than $46.3 million, beating March when $44.5 million was bet. It’s notable that June is a much slower sports month than March, which includes the NCAA college basketball tournament.

The state’s sportsbook operators generated $3.1 million in revenue for the month. About $23.3 million in the total handle was wagered at a SugarHouse sportsbook, either online or in person. Of that, $18.2 million came online.

SugarHouse’s sister property in Pittsburgh, Rivers Casino, generated more than $800,000 in handle from a week of online betting. Its retail sportsbook brought in more than $7 million.
