Philippine Casino Expansion to Cost US$235M

The Widus Group, owner of the Widus Hotel and Casino complex in the Philippines’ Clark Freeport Zone, says Phase I of the property’s expansion will cost approximately PHP12 billion (US$235.2 million).

The first phase was expected to be complete by the end of 2020, the company confirmed to GGRAsia. The complex, to be rebranded as the Hann Casino Resort, will include a Swissôtel Hotels and Resorts facility.

“The new hotels will not have any casino or gaming spaces,” said a Widus spokesperson, adding that the company will be “flexible” about applying for an additional gaming license.

Phase II of the expansion will include the renovation and rebranding of two Widus Hotel towers into the Mercure Hotel. That work is expected to be completed by 2022.

A Hann Lux Lifestyle Resort, to be developed at New Clark City, will offer three, 18-hole championship golf courses, and additional accommodations. Phase I of Hann Lux, scheduled to open by 2024, will feature a Banyan Tree Hotel, an Angsana hotel, and one golf course. The company said it expected to invest about PHP5 billion for the initial phase.

A later phase of the New Clark City development will add a Westin Hotel and accommodations under Marriott International’s Luxury Collection brand. It will also offer two more golf courses and other “mixed-use facilities,” the company representative told us. The final phase is expected to be completed by 2029.
