Philippine Court Opens Door to Club Development

A Philippine appeals court has denied an appeal to stop the redevelopment of the historic Army and Navy Club in Manila. The site is expected to be turned into a hotel and casino.

A Philippine Court of Appeals has rejected a bid by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption to halt redevelopment of a historic military club in Manila. The court noted that the anti-casino group should have first opposed the project before a regional trial court, reported the Asia Gaming Brief.

The group said redeveloping the 13,000-square-meter property (140,000-square-foot) property near Manila Bay would violate the National Cultural Heritage Act. It also objected to building a casino near the Museo Pambata, a children’s museum.
