Philippines Considers Online Gambling Regulations

The Philippines will consider regulating online gambling under a bill introduced to the country’s House of Representative. The sponsor of the bill says rules to guard against underage gambling are needed.

A Philippines legislator has introduced a bill to regulate online gambling saying that the online sites have become assessable to minors.

ACT- CIS partylist Rep. Samuel Pagdilao said his bill seeks to monitor gambling sites and protect minors.

“People are no longer bound to physical locations and are able to face their bets from within their own homes,” Pagdilao said in a press statement.

Under the bill, any licensee or employee of an online gambling site that allows a players under the age of 18 to open an account and gamble would face five to 10 years imprisonment or a fine ranging from P5 million to P10 million or both.

Also, parents and guardians who induce minors to gamble would face 5 years to 10 years in prison or a fine of P100,000 or both.
