The Philippine government has announced it will ramp up its efforts to ensure that all foreign laborers in the country’s land-based and online gaming industries hold valid employment permits.

According to the Philippine Star, the Department of Labor and Employment will work with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. to check the employment status of foreigners working in the industries, paying special attention to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators. Under Philippine law, 20 percent of the workers at foreign-owned businesses may be foreign nationals provided they hold jobs that cannot be filled by locals.
