Philly’s SugarHouse Cuts Ribbon on Expansion

Philadelphia’s SugarHouse held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open its $164 million expansion, which adds casino space, a poker room and multiple dining options. Rush Street Gaming Chairman Neil Bluhm (l. to r.), SugarHouse Casino General Manager Wendy Hamilton, SugarHouse Casino CEO Greg Carlin and Councilman Mark Squilla celebrate the ribbon cutting for SugarHouse Casino's $164 million expansion.

Philadelphia’s SugarHouse Casino celebrated its completed 4 million expansion last week with a special appreciation ceremony and ribbon cutting.

U.S. Rep. Bob Brady joined SugarHouse General Manager Wendy Hamilton and officials of SugarHouse parent company Rush Street Gaming, Chairman Neil Bluhm and CEO Greg Carlin, to cut the ribbon on the expansion, which adds casino space, a multi-purpose event center and seven new restaurants.

The ribbon-cutting showcased the casino’s new attractions, including the SugarHouse Marketplace featuring Philadelphia brands, six other new restaurants, the multi-purpose Event Center and the first-ever Poker Night in America Poker Room.

“We are excited to wrap up our much-anticipated expansion and welcome guests to the bigger, better SugarHouse,” said Hamilton. “From world-class entertainment and dining to expanded gaming, SugarHouse is one of Philly’s premiere destinations for a night on the town or to hold a group event.”

The casino expansion, designed by Cope Linder Architects of Philadelphia, increases SugarHouse’s 108,000-square-foot facility to approximately 260,000 square feet, not including the new seven-story parking garage of roughly 600,000 square feet. The larger gaming areas offer 44 additional table games, 289 new slots and the 28-table poker room.

The Poker Night in America Poker Room, the first room branded under the popular nationally televised CBS poker show, includes 252 seats, and is becoming a home base for broadcasts of the show, which recorded an installment at the room in April featuring some of the most famous names in poker, including Joe McKeehan and Matt Glantz.

The expanded casino area also includes a new High Limit Lounge, offering a private atmosphere, while still being a part of the casino action. Guests will enjoy high limit gaming, concierge service, private parking and more.

The Event Center boasts a 30,000 square-foot multi-purpose space, now available for booking. Located on the second floor of the casino, the facility is tailor-made for corporate events, wedding receptions, black-tie galas, major performances and more. It features floor-to-ceiling windows and beautiful panoramic views of the riverfront and the Ben Franklin Bridge. It can accommodate small and large groups of more than 1,000 guests for standing room only, or up to 800 people for banquet seating, and is accessible for all ages.

New dining options include:

• The Marketplace of Philly Favorites, featuring four local dining favorites including Saxbys Coffee, Tacconelli’s Pizzeria, Geno’s Steaks and the brand-new Revolution Grill;

• Saxbys Coffee (opening in early June), the Philadelphia-based coffee company that focuses on hospitality while offering specialty coffees, espressos, smoothies and a variety of breakfast items;

• Tacconelli’s Pizzeria, famous for its fresh brick-oven tomato pie;

• Geno’s Steaks, the legendary original home of the cheese steak, offering thinly sliced rib-eye cheesesteaks on oven-warm bread;

• Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chop House, the first and only Philadelphia branch of the legendary Chicago seafood restaurant; and,

• Revolution Grill, a new grab-and-go outlet offering fresh and made-to-go order salads, wraps and paninis.
