Pinnacle Withdraws from Poland, BetVictor from Russia

Online sportsbook Pinnacle confirmed that it will withdraw from the Polish market due to new online regulations there. The bookie expects to close all Polish accounts by April 1. Also, BetVictor announced it will withdraw from the Russian market due to stricter regulations there.

Pinnacle will exit the Polish sports betting market to stay in compliance with new online gambling regulations in the country.

The bookmaker said it will start closing accounts and return funds to customers starting April 1.

Pinnacle management confirmed the withdrawal, but did not issue a formal statement.

Poland’s new regulations include a 12 percent tax on wagering revenue, prompting complaints from several online gambling sites to the European Union saying the regulations favor state-owned gambling firms. Despite the criticism, the country went ahead with tighter regulations on online gambling in December.

In Russia, BetVictor advised its customers there that it is withdrawing form that country’s online market.

Russia is considering furthering tightening restrictions on unlicensed online betting by going after online payment processors that “enable” unlicensed sites.

BetVictor advised players to withdraw all remaining funds as it plans to close all Russian accounts.
