The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation has announced that Montford Inc—which distributes random-number-generating games from PlayTech—has been certified as a Gaming Software Provider for Philippine Offshore Gambling Operator licensees.
The report, based on a memorandum obtained by CalvinAyre.com means Playtech will have a monopoly on RNG games among gambling sites with a POGO license.
The memo says “to date, only Montford Inc. has been issued an accreditation and authority to operate as a Gaming Software Provider. Thus, only the RNG-based games distributed by Montford are allowed to be used by our POGO licensees.”
This memorandum also says POGO licensees “found to be using games developed by an unauthorized service provider, or those who engage the services of a gaming software provider not accredited by PAGCOR, shall be imposed the corresponding demerits and administrative penalties,” according to the report.
The regulator has not said if it is considering giving accreditation to other RNG game providers. CalvinAyre’s report cited several gaming analysts saying that giving PlayTech a complete monopoly will hurt sites currently using games from other developers and may prove unworkable for many operators.
