Playtech Makes Content, M&A Announcements

Playtech announced a multi-year content deal with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, the launch of an innovative multi-channel game, and an acquisition of an online game developer.

Online content supplier Playtech Plc. made several announcements last week of moves designed to expand the company’s market.

The company announced its largest-ever, multi-year, exclusive branded games content deal with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, to license and develop an extensive catalogue of iconic DC-branded film and television properties into leading omni-channel casino games.

Drawing from the worlds of such Warner Bros. Pictures titles as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Suicide Squad and the studio’s upcoming action adventure Justice League, Playtech, the world’s leading gaming content and software, systems and services supplier, will develop a series of omni-channel DC-branded slot, bingo and roulette games, available across multiple channels and devices.

The company signed its first content deal with Warner last year, and released several DC-branded games. The new partnership also brings the previously announced Playtech-DC-branded games content to retail terminals in the U.K., Italy, Finland, Norway and the newly regulated Romanian market. Each game will be linked to the DC Super Heroes Progressive Jackpot with a series of tiered jackpots also available to players ensuring impressive prize payouts, as well as a wide range of prizes across a variety of win levels.

As part of the Playtech ONE omni-channel offering, the casino product allows players to access content anywhere, at any time and on any device through a single wallet and single account.

“This is a hugely significant deal for Playtech,” said company CEO Mor Weizer, “and we’re delighted to have a wider-reaching exclusive DC film- and TV-branded content licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products. We’ve had phenomenal feedback from our licensees based on the high-quality and caliber of the DC-branded games we rolled out in 2016.

“Today’s agreement takes this launch strategy to the next level by allowing Playtech to expand its robust offering with an array of new games branded to blockbuster DC film titles. In addition, these new titles will contribute to the growth of the prize level of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot.”

In a separate release, the company announced the launch of omni-channel offering Tiki Paradise across all channels and devices exclusively with Coral in more than 300 shops and in all 1800 U.K. outlets later this month.

Tiki Paradise is a true omni-channel game that rewards players as they unlock enhanced features and functionality by playing in-shop, online and on mobile. It is a five-reel, 10-line slot game featuring random stacked wild reels and a feature called “Win Shuffle” that enhances a player’s win by shuffling the reels..

Finally, Playtech made an announcement confirming its acquisition of online game developer Eyecon for a maximum consideration of £50 million.

Playtech will pay an up-front cash fee of £25 million for its acquisition of Brisbane-based Eyecon assets. The technology firm has added a further £25 million in performance-based targets once the initial acquisition is complete.

Detailing its acquisition, Playtech stated that Eyecon’s popular “soft games” inventory of over 70 titles will enhance its existing portfolio, with a particular focus on adding popular content to its Virtue Fusion online bingo network.

“We are delighted to continue the execution of our acquisition strategy by welcoming Eyecon to the Playtech Group,” said Weizer. “Eyecon adds premium-quality games to Playtech’s stable of industry-leading content. We look forward to working with the Eyecon team, who will bring robust technology and further industry expertise to the Playtech family.”
