Eleven online gaming operators in the Philippines are up and running again. According to a June 22 report from Inside Asian Gaming, the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) were cleared to resume operations by the state-run regulatory body, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR).
Covid-19 restrictions in the country initially were eased in early May, but according to Philippines Bureau of Internal Revenue, at that time not one POGO licensee of 60 in the country were unable to operate because of outstanding tax obligations. The BIR also warned that any POGO found operating in the meantime would be immediately shut down.
In addition to the 11 POGO licensees cleared to open, two others may open
“pending the required inspection of their workspaces by our monitoring and enforcement department and settlement of any outstanding arrears with PAGCOR,” the regulator stated. “The rest are still in the process of settling their tax liabilities.”
