PointsBet, Track Could Be Next With Online Betting

Hawthorne Race Course in Stickney, Illinois is seeking permission to go live as the next online sportsbook in partnership with PointsBet.

PointsBet, Track Could Be Next With Online Betting

Hawthorne Race Course on August 27 filed its request to go live with sports wagering. If approved, it brings to four the number of mobile sports options in Illinois. The track has partnered with PointsBet on this venture.

It could take the Illinois Gaming Board two to three weeks to approve the request.

BetRivers was the first to launch on June 18, and DraftKings at Casino Queen went live online on August 5 while FanDuel debuted August 28. Illinois residents can register remotely for online accounts under an executive order from Governor J.B. Pritzker, which suspended in-person registration.

The order goes till September 19 unless it’s extended.

When PointsBet kicks off, it will become the first sportsbook operator to pair with a racetrack in Illinois. Partnering with a racetrack has the advantage of also being able to have sportsbooks at three off-track betting parlors throughout the metro Chicago area.
