A 23-story, 317-room hotel tower will open at Four Winds Casino in South Bend, Indiana on March 1, adding 400 new jobs to the local economy. The casino and hotel are owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, owners of Four Winds Casinos in New Buffalo, Hartford and Dowagiac, Michigan.
Four Winds South Bend opened in January 2018 and hotel construction was announced the following year. Pokagon Band Tribal Council Chairperson Rebecca Richards said, “In 2018, we built the South Bend casino without a hotel to see what the market was going to be like because we had not been in that area. There’s a need there in the community for it. Business was growing and doing well and so we wanted to expand to offer the amenities with a hotel, spa, pool, restaurants and the event space.”
Richards added the event space will be “a service to the community.” It can accommodate up to 900 people and host conferences, concerts and more.
She stated after the hotel opens, tribal officials “are gonna sit back and have to do some planning for sure to see what might be missing. But in the meantime, we’re focusing on serving our citizens with our programs that we deliver through our government. We’ve been committed to being a great partner in the community. We’re doing that through donations but also service to the community.”
