PokerStars, BetStars Launch in Romania

PokerStars.com and BetStars, the leading poker and sports betting brands of Amaya Inc., are launching new software in Romania to comply with requirements of a new full license that took effect September 1.

Amaya Inc.’s leading poker and sports betting brands, PokerStars.com and BetStars, prepared to launch new software in Romania as the firm officially entered the market. In the past 12 months, PokerStars.ro, BetStars.ro and Full Tilt have operated under an interim Romanian license; the full license took effect September 1.

“We are very happy to offer the world’s leading poker and sports betting brands to Romanians under a local regulatory framework,” said Eric Hollreiser, vice president of corporate communications for Amaya. “This demonstrates Amaya’s commitment to the responsible growth of online gaming by supporting local regulation that is good for players, good for operators, and provides revenue for regulators.”

To comply with local regulatory requirements, Amaya will work only with partners and suppliers who are licensed in Romania and hold a Class II license. Full Tilt will no longer be able available in Romania, with players migrating to the PokerStars.ro brand. Romanian poker players will continue to be able to participate in PokerStars’ global shared liquidity player pool. The offering on BetStars will continue unchanged. And PokerStars will proactively contact players to authenticate their accounts in compliance with Romanian rules.
