Poland Warns of Steep Penalties for Illegal iGaming

Poland is warning residents that they face high fines for playing on illegal, unlicensed online casinos. Up to $1.1 million. The unlicensed iGaming sites face even stiffer penalties, plus potential prison time.

The government of Poland has warned residents of the East European country against gambling on unlicensed online casinos. The Finance Ministry and National Revenue Administration both said they face penalties as high as $1.1 million.

The ministries cited the fiscal penal code of the Gambling Act of 2017 as it relates to unlicensed iGaming sites.

iGaming sites operating illegally also face fines of as high as $4 million plus jail sentences of up to three years.

According to iGamingBusiness.com, the government has clarified that promotional lotteries are legal as long as the operator obtains the appropriate license.

Poland has been waging a long battle against unlicensed iGaming and has identified more than 15,000 such “blacklisted” sites.
