Portugal Sets Gambling Ad Limits

The Assembly of the Republic of Portugal has adopted legislation setting time limits on gaming ads. Under the legislation, gaming will be treated like alcohol when it comes to advertisements.

The legislation, adopted October 1, will amend the country’s Code of Advertising and ban the ads from TV and radio from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Legislation that was passed last year to encourage more online gaming, also called for ad limitations. Another bill requires warnings about the dangers of addiction in advertisements for social games and lotteries. Another provision calls for a self-exclusion process for those who don’t want to be exposed to gaming ads on the internet.

Now that the bills have been passed they will be reviewed for 60 days by the Committee on Economy, Innovation, Works, Public and Housing.
