Premier League football players were able to resume training May 19, a first step towards playing games following a forced shutdown in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Training will require maintaining social distancing, as agreed on by players, managers, club doctors, independent experts and the government, according to iGaming Business. Full-contact training, such as tackling, will still be prohibited. Such protocols are being developed with the various stakeholders involved.
Strict medical procedures will enable all players to train in the safest possible environment.
“The health and wellbeing of all participants is the Premier League’s priority, and the safe return to training is a step-by-step process,” the league said.
The U.K. government’s approach to ease lockdown measures won’t be met by June 1, but teams have committed to finishing the season.
While football governing bodies in France, Belgium and the Netherlands ended their seasons early, England, along with Italy and Spain intend to continue the season. Germany’s Bundesliga resumed play already.
