Problem Gambling Proclamation Sought in Virgin Islands

The Casino Control Commission of the Virgin Islands last week heard presenters speak about the important of educating the public to the dangers of problem gambling.

Supporters of a resolution promoting March as National Problem Gambling Awareness Month in the U.S. Territory of the Virgin Islands spoke last week before the Casino Control Commission.

Violet Anne Golden, chairman of the commission told presenters, We are committed to having a public conversation on the serious topic of problem gambling in the territory.”

Speakers included Keith Whyte, director of the National Council on Problem Gambling. Stephanie Barnes of ABC Behavioral Consulting Services and Joseph Bullock, director of Substance Abuse Services in Virginia.

The commission is holding several public events to raise awareness about problem gambling.

Commissioner Roderick Moorehead urged the commission to focus on the problem all year long, not just during March.
