Proposal Would Bring Casino to Brazil’s Mato Grosso

Brazil’s Senator Angelo Coronel is promoting a proposal to legalize gaming in the country and host the first casino resort in the state of Mato Grosso.

The senator, who calls casino games “games of fortune,” will present his report to the Senate once it begins meeting normally again.

One of the proposed casinos would be in Chapada dos Guimarães, according to Malai Manso.

Senator Coronel argues that casino revenue would help fund assistance programs. Working in tandem with him is Senator Irajá Abreu who earlier this year introduced a bill legalize gaming to assist tourism. Abreu commented, “The legalization of casino gambling inside integrated tourist facilities, followed by a concession process to exploit these services, will attract large investments to the Brazilian tourism market, and will boost the economic activity of all regions of this country.”

One restriction is that only ten percent of the resort may be set aside for gaming.
