The proposed Moon Resorts Las Vegas would provide a realistic simulation of space travel “without the microgravity or homesickness,” according to the website Vegas Today and Tomorrow.
The $5 billion, 5.5 million-square-foot project, proposed by Moon World Resorts, would feature 4,000 hotel rooms, a casino, event and performance spaces, a 75,000 square-foot spa, and moon-inspired dining establishments.
The resort would actually resemble the moon, at 735 feet tall and 650 feet wide. It would be one of the tallest buildings in Las Vegas, second only to the Strat Observation Tower.
Moon World Resorts co-founder Michael Henderson told the New York Post that “the masses just can’t participate” in space tourism due to prohibitive buy-ins (with flights in the six-figure range). “With Moon,” he wrote, “for US$500 they can walk on an authentic lunar surface and enjoy exploring a lunar colony in a spectacular way.”
The plan apparently is in the concept phase only, with no official plans for now.
