Question 1 Blankets R.I. TV Advertising

The main political subject for conversation on the TV airwaves in Rhode Island is Question 1. This initiative would allow Twin River Management Group to move its slots parlor from Newport, which doesn’t really want it, to Tiverton, which does.

Advertising against, but overwhelmingly for Question 1 is blanketing the airwaves in Rhode Island, where of the seven ballot questions, the one addressing approval of a new slots parlor on the Massachusetts border has sparked the most interest.

An estimated $370,000 has been spent so far on TV ads by the Citizens to Create Jobs and Create Revenue Inc., funded by Twin River Management Group to sell the public on its proposed move of its Newport casino to Tiverton, just a few hundred yards from the boundary with the Bay State.

That’s actually chump change compared to how much is being spent this year across the U.S. on state initiatives. In Massachusetts, for example, $18.4 million has been spent so far.
