Racino Dead in Wolverhampton

Plans to open Britain’s first racino have been scrapped by track owners. The facility in Wolverhampton was to anchor a £22 million plan for revitalizing the area with a hotel and convention space.

Owners of England’s Wolverhampton Racecourse have scrapped plans for a racino at the track.

The track was bidding for a casino license granted the city in competition with incumbent operator Casino 36, which plans to expand its existing venue. The slots facility was to be part of a £23 million master plan for the track site which included a hotel and meetings space.

Casino 36 is now expected to win the license, which will likely be recommended in June when City Council’s Casino License Evaluation Panel delivers its report to the council’s licensing committee.
