Nigel Railton has been appointed UK CEO of the National Lottery, Camelot, the Lottery operator announced last week.
The appointment of Railton, who was previously the Camelot International chief executive officer, to the position was part of Camelot’s strategic review for 2017-2018 describing changes and initiatives to the Lottery. Railton replaces Andy Duncan, who resigned several months ago.
Railton commented: “It’s a privilege to have been given the opportunity to run Camelot’s UK business. As operator of the National Lottery, we’re a company like no other—a commercial organization that raises billions of pounds for the public good.”
Before his appointment, Railton had spearheaded the strategic review, which had suggested several strategies for addressing the decline in lottery ticket sales.
Camelot recently announced that National Lottery sales for the first six months of the year were £3,280.4 million, a decline of 3.2 percent from the same period in 2016.
Railton’s plan includes a four-point plan that includes: “1. Improving the range of games, 2. Enhance retail offering, 3. Upgrade digital capabilities and 4. Reinvigorate the National Lottery brand.”
