RedKings announced it will shut down its online poker and sports betting products in the UK, but keep its online casino operational.
The company cited growing competition and regulatory pressure in the market for the move.
RedKings has offered online poker in the UK for about 13 years, most recently through MPN’s platform. The company said poker players could close out bonuses through April 28 and advised sports betting patrons to settle outstanding bets by April 24.
The company also said it has arranged with Betsafe to take over its promotions allowing players to be able to continue playing on MPN.
The UK recently increased taxes on online gambling to 21 percent on their annual revenue from UK customers, up from the previous 15 percent rate. The UK has also increased its level of enforcement and fines for online betting companies.
RedKings joins BetBright and 188Bet in shutting down some operations in the UK since the changes.
In another matter, the UK Advertising Standards Authority has sanctioned five betting firms for advertisements that target children. They include Video Slot, Redbet, Multilotto, Unibet and PlayOjo.
The authority found a total of 23 gambling ads that appeared 151 times across 11 of the children’s websites that were monitored.
The authority said the gambling firms accepted they had broken the rules, but in most instances the firm’s pointed to mistakes by third-party companies hired to run their campaigns on the web.
