Regulator Seeks to Collect Fines from Imperial Pacific International

Imperial Pacific International (IPI) had its gaming license suspended in 2021 and Saipan’s Commonwealth Casino Commission (CCC) is still trying to collect $25 million in back payments and fines from the casino operator.

According to the Saipan Tribune, the CCC filed a petition with the court to

Find IPI in violation of its initial order. That judgment found that CCC was right to suspend IPI’s license.

Now the CCC is looking to collect $25.3 million in missed license fees, mandatory payments, and interest.

The $25.3 million is only a fourth of the $100 million IPI currently owes. The CCC has sought to permanently suspend their license, but the company was granted a temporary restraining order by the court.

The CCC tried to avoid court by entering into settlement talks. IPI had claimed it was receiving a $150 million cash injection. That never happened and negotiations broke down.

Then the CCC went to court to force the sale of electronic gaming machines owned by IPI and stored at its shuttered Saipan casino. Online auctions were held to sell the machines.

IPI was supposed to make payments from a court order. As of yet they have failed to make any payments of the outstanding license fee and regulatory fees and penalties.
