The Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation has developed a new app to give problem gamblers access to self-help.
The “Reset for Recovery” app was funded by an AU$200,000 (US$142,000) grant from the Australian state government. According to the foundation, it helps users understand why they gamble and offers tools for tracking and managing gambling behaviors.
The app was developed based on research conducted by Deakin University in Geelong, Australia. It uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other modalities to support people concerned about their gambling habits. The app has can be used as an alternative to or in combination with traditional in-person counseling services, the government said.
“We understand the importance of minimizing gambling harm and ensuring all Victorians have access to the help they need—this app is another way we’re supporting people at risk of problematic gambling behavior,” said Minister for Gaming and Liquor Regulation Melissa Horne.
“The ‘Reset’ app provides a great alternative to traditional counselling methods, removing barriers such as stigma that can prevent people from seeking help.”
