Making a play for more global tourists

Resorts World Genting, the only legal casino resort in Malaysia, has announced plans to add a Zouk Club-branded nightspot.

The brand popular among millennials was established in Singapore, home of a 31,000-square-foot flagship venue considered one of the top dance clubs in Asia, according to GGRAsia. So-called ZoukOut festivals have been held in Japan, the Philippines and Hong Kong.

Genting Hong Kong Ltd., a subsidiary of Genting Malaysia Bhd, announced the addition this month, but did not set an opening date. Genting Hong Kong acquired the Zouk brand in 2015.

According to a filing, Genting Hong Kong will receive a management fee equal to 3 percent of monthly total gross revenue derived from the nightclub’s operation. The deal also includes the payment of incentive management fees if pre-established earning targets are reached. The company will also be entitled to a monthly trademark license fee equal to 3 percent of monthly total gross monthly revenues.

“Zouk remains on course in its goal to become a major player in the global nightlife industry in the future and is committed towards being a platform introducing millennials to Zouk’s and Genting’s entities,” Genting Hong Kong stated in its interim report for the first half of 2017.

Since 2013, Resorts World Genting has been undergoing a multi-phase expansion and renovation known as the Genting Integrated Tourism Plan expected to be complete in 2023. In November Genting Malaysia said it’s “looking forward to the roll-out” of a 20th Century Fox World Theme Park at Resorts World Genting as well as to the opening of a new indoor theme park in 2018.

According to Asia Gaming Brief, theZouk team says it will “revolutionize” Malaysia’s nightlife scene with a Zouk Beach and a RedTail social gaming bar that offers e-Gaming competitions.

“While being an obvious millennial magnet thanks to its varied offerings, RedTail can cater for all age groups,” said Zouk Consulting Pte Ltd. General Manager Joseph Ryan. “The venue is perfectly equipped for celebrations and group gatherings of all sizes, and lovers of all kinds of music, games and sports.”

TravelBizMonitor.com reports that Genting hopes to attract more international visitors with the new attractions, including the world’s first Twentieth Century Fox World theme park and a renovated indoor theme park, SkyTropolis.
