Retired Lake County, California Sheriff Brian Martin has endorsed the Koi Nation’s proposed Shiloh Resort & Casino project in the unincorporated part of Sonoma County, Business Wire reported July 13.

The project will include a planned destination resort with a 400-room hotel, entertainment. It will also provide income and employment for the tribe that was landless for 150 years.

The former Sheriff was in law enforcement for more than 30 years. He was Sheriff of Lake County for 17 years.

In his endorsement statement Martin said, “After over 30 years in law enforcement, I’ve had many communications with community members concerned about issues such as traffic safety, water rights, fire prevention, and most importantly, about issues concerning public safety.” Martin added, “I’m happy to share that the Koi Nation has a robust public safety plan to address all of these issues.”

The tribe’s mitigation plans include providing for on-site security and law enforcement, traffic management, fire mitigation and prevention and use of on-site water.

Darin Beltran, Koi Nation tribal chairman, said in a statement: “We are honored to have won the support of a regional leader in law enforcement like Sheriff Martin.” He added, “The Koi Nation is confident that the Shiloh Resort & Casino’s mitigation plan will serve to improve public safety for not only our future guests, but also the entire surrounding community.”
