Return of Table Games Doesn’t Cause Bay State Casinos to Rebound

The addition of table games, including roulette and craps, doesn’t appear to have significantly boosted attendance at Massachusetts’s Encore Boston Harbor (l.) and MGM Springfield casinos. Attendance is still below the capacity limits set by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

Return of Table Games Doesn’t Cause Bay State Casinos to Rebound

Although the Massachusetts Gaming Commission October 8 allowed the Encore Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield casinos to reopen table games, this has not resulted in the hoped for rebound. The numbers of patrons who are visiting the casinos is still below the Covid health safety limits set.

The panel heard that occupancy numbers were “well below the reduced level you have authorized,” at its regular meeting last week.

Currently the casinos are allowed about 33 percent of their normal capacity to reduce the chances of spreading the virus.
