‘Rigorous’ Resorts World Las Vegas Planning Under Way

The Genting Group has spent more than $50 million on preliminary planning for its $4 billion Resorts World Las Vegas, which it says should open in 2018. Genting topped off one of two garage structures and says thousands of construction jobs will be created after the planning and permitting process is done.

Six months after a May groundbreaking, the Genting Group says progress continues on its Resorts World Las Vegas casino with a 2018 opening planned.

Workers topped off one of the project’s two parking structures and continue working to complete them as the Genting Group continues working on obtaining necessary permits and ensure the $4 billion project is completed properly.

“A $4 billion project will not be built overnight. It requires a rigorous planning and approval process,” Genting spokesman Michael Levoff said in a statement.

Levoff said Genting has spent $50 million thus far on planning for the Resorts World project, which he said is “one of the most cutting-edge and ambitious” undertaken on the Las Vegas Strip in the past decade, and it will create thousands of construction jobs once the final design is approved and all permits are in place.

The Chinese-themed Resorts World project resides on 87 acres that are located on the west side of the Las Vegas Strip across from the Wynn and Encore casinos. The site is the former Echelon project, which Boyd Gaming abandoned during construction when the Great Recession hit and eventually sold to the Genting Group for $350 million.
