It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Ron Baumann. With grace and strength he battled and showed us all the meaning of dignity and pride.
He lived life with extraordinary passion, presence and effervescence.
Born in a small town in Jersey, he and his 3 brothers (Chris, Jeff and Joe) were raised by a single mother, he wasn’t sure he’d ever cross the county line. Yet, touched by destiny; one of the most infamous tales in gaming was born– he hitchhiked to Vegas, built up his bank role tossing dice, flew first class to Macau and lost it all playing baccarat, worked on the fishing boats in Romania, saved enough to make his way to Sydney, battled back on the tables and flew home private after winning at roulette in all the back room gin joints of Europe. A true gambler at heart always taking chances and pushing the boundaries.
His smile and energy lite up every room. A lover of wine, food, sports and a closet museum lover—A true Renaissance man! He enjoyed life to the fullest and brought others into his world elevating the experience into an unforgettable evening. He began his career in food and beverage, never getting to far from his roots, dining with Ron was a cultural journey across continents. His love and knowledge for Spanish and Italian wines was only rivaled by his graceful gate as he floated across the dance floors of Barcelona this past Christmas with his beautiful wife, Aliona.
In roles of leadership throughout his illustrious career he has influenced a new generation of young women and men who will carry on those lessons in the biggest Hospitality companies throughout the world. Each one credits him with giving them the chance to prove themselves and change the course of their lives. Just being around his aura and charisma made us stand a little taller, a little prouder and there wasn’t anything we couldn’t conquer together. We worked harder and smarter than ever before and always felt better about ourselves. Personally, much of the success I’ve obtained in my career can be traced back to Ron; proudly many others mirror the same story. We all carry on his legacy of compassion and humility, as do his 3 beautiful and loving children—Danielle, Doug and Michael.
Many called him a mentor, many a friend, he will always be a brother to me.
Get some rest my Brother—start gathering the wines—for when we’re all together, the party begins again…..
