The ongoing debate over legalizing internet gaming in Pennsylvania, where several bills are temporarily stalled in the legislature, has gotten mixed support from the 12 land-based casinos. However, last week, another land-based operator came out in support of iGaming, as the chief executive of Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino said he supports adding online gaming to the mix.
In an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Rivers General Manager Craig Clark said iGaming, along with sports betting, would be a welcome expansion of offerings for Pennsylvania gamblers, with each channel supporting the others.
“The more products you can have, and a broad mix of products, the more of a complete facility you have,” Clark told the newspaper. “The more people you can attract.”
Among the several iGaming bills in the Pennsylvania legislature—all delayed by the state’s ongoing budget debate—the most likely to move is sponsored by Rep. John Payne, chairman of the House Gaming Oversight Committee. That measure would legalize a complete slate of online casino games and poker, with licenses tied to the land-based operators as in New Jersey.
