Robot Security Debuts at Twin Arrows Casino

It’s not Robocop exactly. But the Knightscope K5 robot, a friendly, non-threatening security robot, has begun patrolling the Navajo Nation’s Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort of Flagstaff, Arizona.

Robot Security Debuts at Twin Arrows Casino

The Navajo Nation’s Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort of Flagstaff, Arizona will be the second casino in the United States to deploy a Knightscope security robot. It is expected to be activated on the site this month.

The Knightscope K5 autonomous robot will act as a force multiplier for the existing staff, allowing it to cover more ground of the 300,000 square foot casino resort.

Brain Parrish Navajo Gaming Interim chief executive officer told the Navajo Post: “The safety of our guests and team member is our number one priority. Our Twin Arrows leadership and security teams have collaborated with Knightscope’s engineers to create a robot that augments our strong existing system and enhances our resources in a cost-effective way, as we continuously evaluate ways to improve.”

The robot is nearly 400 pounds of what Knightscope describes as a “commanding but friendly physical security presence.” It has many sensors to gather data and determine if there is a threat or concern, at which point it alerts a human security team. The robot does not gather personal data about individual guests. It can read license plates, stream, send or record video, read RFID tags, play pre-recorded messages and detect people in places where they aren’t supposed to be.
