A lawyer and advisor to Stanley Ho will soon depart the board of directors of Ho’s company, Macau casino operator SJM Holdings Ltd. Rui Cunha may be replaced by Daisy Ho, daughter of the casino magnate.
Since 2001 Cunha has served as a director of the Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, which holds SJM’s Macau gaming license. Starting in 2003, he was the company’s secretary, and became director in 2008.
In a filing, the company said Cunha was stepping due to a “change of his responsibility focus as a result of the group’s business growth and diversification.” It added that CEO Ambrose So and current executive directors Angela Leong and Timothy Fok Tsun Ting would seek reelection. SJM Holdings said the election of Daisy Ho as a director would “enhance board diversity.”
The filing said Daisy Ho has “extensive knowledge of financial functions of a publicly-listed conglomerate of property and hotel development” and experience in travel and hospitality “in Greater China and the Southeast Asian region.”
She has been deputy managing director and chief financial officer of Shun Tak Holdings Ltd., another Stanley Ho company, since 1999. Shun Tak is a Hong Kong-listed shipping, property development and hospitality services firm, reported GGRAsia.
Daisy Ho was previously a director at MGM Grand Paradise Ltd., the gaming license holder for MGM Resorts International’s casino property in Macau, MGM Macau. MGM Grand Paradise acquired its Macau gaming license from SJM for US$200 million.
