Russian Regulator Sees Increase in Online Gambling Websites

Russian telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor reported a 30 percent increase in illegal online activities in 20916 over 1015, including 15,900 sites that offered online gambling related services. The regulator said it closed 12,561 sites related to online gambling including 6,500 that were online casino domains.

Russia’s telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor announced that it identified about 87,000 websites featuring prohibited materials in the country—about 30 percent more than in 2015—including about 15,900 that offered online gambling-related services.

The regulator said it received more than 127,000 reports of illicit websites from the public. Complaints about gambling-related service generated the second-highest number of complaints, according to a report on Yogoinet.com.

The regulator closed 12,561 sites related to online gambling. About 6.500 of the sites were online casino domains, which along with poker sites are illegal under Russian law, the report said.
