Samoa Looks for Major Hotel, Possible Casino

The government of Samoa is seeking proposals for a 250-room hotel development that could include a casino. The country wants the project run by a major brand.

Samoan officials are seeking proposals for a 250-room hotel project that could include a casino according to New Zealand radio.

The development would be at the site of the old Rainmaker Hotel. The country hopes the proposal will come from a recognized hotel brand.

The island nation already has one casino, run by local firm Aggie Greys. A recent attempt to award a second casino license faltered, however, and it appears the country has decided to seek new proposals.

The casino licenses were seen as a way of helping boost tourism on the island after the 2009 tsunami wiped almost a third off the country’s economy.
