San Diego Casino Completes $50 Million Expansion

Valley View Casino & Hotel, in San Diego County, California, last week celebrated a $50 million expansion and renovation. It joins nine other casinos in the region that have completed similar projects in the last five years.

The 18-month project included 43,000 square feet of casino, restaurant and public space that brings the total number of slot machines up to 2,000. The gaming floor was remodeled from the top to the bottom, from the carpets to the chandeliers. Also remodeled was the non-smoking casino, high-limit area, VIP lounge, buffet and café, with 100 more seats added, for a total of 600, cutting on the time waiting in line.

Ian Williams, director of hotel operations and player development noted that the changes positions the casino to go after a more upscale and younger demographic. He told Pacific San Diego: “It just sets us up to compete with any casino in Las Vegas and any casino in San Diego.”

Valley View is the middle of San Diego’s concentration of casinos, which is the densest in the Golden State. The casino is known for its endless Maine lobster buffet and the only casino infinity pool in the county.

The extra gaming space made room for 250 additional slots, 11 new gaming tables. It also made room for a new restaurant and bar called Patties & Pints featuring high end pub cuisine. Draft beer makes it appearance for the first time at the casino’s four bars.
