Half a year after completing its $260 million expansion, Sycuan Casino in San Diego County has released its general manager, John Dinius, a 26-year veteran of the company.
Dinius had worked his way up the ranks, starting as a bingo parlor clerk. He was general manager for five years. He wouldn’t tell the San Diego Union-Tribune why he had been let go, citing a confidentiality agreement and the fact that he was still in the middle of “the separation process.”
For its part, the casino said the former GM “retired from Sycuan to pursue new opportunities.” Dinius said he was unsure what that might be.
He said the separation was amicable. “I look back on the past 26 years as invaluable. I have nothing but fond memories and I wish them nothing but the best and it will take some time to figure out what I do next.”
Six months ago, the casino held the grand opening for its first hotel and resort.
