The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem has named Douglas S. Niethold as its interim president, replacing Robert DeSalvio. It was not revealed whether Niethold, who has been the Sands’ vice president of finance since 2007, is a candidate to fill the position permanently.
DeSalvio, the first and only president and CEO of Sands Bethlehem, left to join Wynn Resorts in Massachusetts, where the operator is vying for a license to operate a casino in the Boston area.
Niethold has 25 years of experience at casinos in Atlantic City, Puerto Rico and Bethlehem.
“We can confirm that Douglas Niethold is now the interim president at Sands Bethlehem,’ said Ron Reese, spokesman for Sands parent company Las Vegas Sands, according to the Allentown Morning Call. “But as (Las Vegas Sands Chief Operating Officer Michael) Leven said a few weeks ago, the company is in the midst of a search for a new president and CEO. Beyond that, we don’t discuss personnel matters.”
