The Gold Horse Casino an enterprise of the Little Pine First Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada held a ribbon cutting near the end of December.
The tribe held the ceremony a year and a half after the project was kicked off with a ground breaking in June 2017. The casino is operated under the aegis of the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA.) This is SIGA’s seventh casino.
The casino operates on land owned by the Little Pine First Nation. The property is leased to SIGA, which will operate it. Tribal Chief Wayne Semaganis commented, “We want to see a new hockey arena here, we want to see housing here. We want to see more than one mall. We have land here that we need to develop, so we need to find ways of bringing different business partners into the fold, and let them know it’s an open door. We’re here to do business.”
The chief said he believed the casino would help foster cooperation between the tribe and surround communities, both indigenous and non-indigenous.
He added, “This is a shared region, with shared lives. We have to share everything and we have to work together to make things better for everybody, where it’s really needed. The safety of the community, the growth of the community, the health, the education, all those things.”
