Saskatchewan Casino to Open Next Fall

The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority has begun construction of the $26.5 million Lloydminster casino (l.), which is expected to open next September. It will be 33,750 square feet with 250 slots and eight gaming tables.

The .5 million Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada casino is moving towards an opening of August or September of 2018. Yellowhead Construction has begun work.

Zane Hansen, chief executive officer of the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA), which will operate the casino, presented a report on the casino’s progress and its economic impact to the Economic Partnership Summit at the Wildrose Pavilion.

Noting several delays that were caused by the approval process, Hansen said he was happy that construction was now underway. The Lloydminster Source quoted him: “It will be a busy window of construction now, so hopefully when we hit the fall period next year, we’ll be opening.”

The finished casino will 33,750 square feet, with 250 slot machines and eight tables—with the possibility of adding more.

Hiring will begin about six months out from opening, said Hansen, focusing first on the management team. A few weeks after that the company will hold a career fair. The casino will employ about 140 fulltime workers with a payroll of about $7 million.

SIGA will be the tenant for the Border Tribal Council, which will own the land and be the casino developer.
