Saskatchewan Revenue Down, Attendance Up

SaskGaming, the state-owned corporation that operates Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan, Canada, recently released its annual financial report. It stated revenue fell $3.6 million to $124.2 million in 2016-17, but attendance rose to a combined total of more than 3.5 million guests compared to 3.41 million in 2015-16.

In its recently released annual financial report, SaskGaming, the Crown corporation owned by the government of Saskatchewan, Canada to operate Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw, stated revenue declined and attendance increased. Revenue dropped .6 million from 2015-2016 to 4.2 million. Operating expenses were .4 million, an increase of ,000 from 2015-16.

The report also indicated income (before payment to General Revenue Fund) was $48.8 million. Payment to the General Revenue Fund, based on income, was $24.4 million, a decline of $2.4 million. The funds go toward the Community Initiatives Fund and First Nations Trust.

Net income was $24.4 million, a drop of $2.4 million from 2015-16. Net income has decreased over the past few years across Canada; the report said industry maturation leads guests to spend less per visit.

However, attendance was up, with a combined total of more than 3.5 million guests at Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw in 2016-17, compared to 3.41 million in 2015-16.

The report also stated SaskGaming launched a new fundraising event, Charity Championship, which generated more than $72,000 for Saskatchewan charities.
