RWM picking up the pieces after attack
Philippine property firm Megaworld opened its second Savoy Hotel at Newport City near Resorts World Manila last Friday. Located opposite Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the PHP5 billion (US$93.5 million) hotel includes 684 hotel rooms and suites and a co-working area called the Square.
According to Inside Asian Gaming, the hotel adds new accommodations “within touching distance” of RWM as it recovers from a deadly attack last June in which a disgruntled gunman killed 36 staffers and patrons and then took his own life. The integrated resort is opening a new Ritz-Carlton, the first in the Philippines, as part of repairs that closed the Maxims hotel where the attacker committed suicide.
RWM has already converted its former Remington Hotel to Holiday Inn Express, while the 191-room Okura Hotel – another newcomer to the Philippines market – will occupy space once earmarked for the expansion of Maxims.
