Scientific Games Launches Symphony Lottery System in Germany

Scientific Games Corp. announced the launch of its latest-generation Symphony lottery systems technology in Germany.

The new system is now powering Lotto Baden-Württemberg and its network of more than 3,000 licensed retailers in Stuttgart in southwest Germany. The system currently supports Lotto Baden-Württemberg’s full line of lottery products including Lotto 6aus49, EuroJackpot, GlücksSpirale, KENO, TOTO, Oddset sports betting, and a variety of instant games.

“As the first lottery worldwide to launch the latest-generation Symphony platform, we are leading the way for other lotteries in the industry to understand the importance of systems technology and third-party integration capabilities for future growth,” said Georg Wacker, managing director of Lotto Baden-Württemberg.

Scientific Games developed Symphony with a self-contained architecture that integrates existing infrastructure and third-party systems across all product lines, expediting the lottery’s ability to respond to rapidly evolving consumer and retailer needs. Symphony is the next generation built on the modular architecture currently operational for Danske Spil and Norsk Tipping.

Pat McHugh, lottery group chief executive for Scientific Games, said, “Lotto Baden-Württemberg has demonstrated its trust in Scientific Games’ cloud-based, omni-channel technology and our sustainable growth expertise.”

Scientific Games has provided Lotto Baden-Württemberg with technology since 1992 through legacy companies, and currently provides technology-based products and support from its lottery technology facility in Vienna, Austria. Lotto Baden-Württemberg and the company’s technology teams worked throughout 2020 on the systems integration project, which was announced in January.

“Symphony is the right platform to support the lottery’s strategic plans to shorten time to market for new products and services,” said Matthias Müller, vice president, strategic sales & marketing, international lottery accounts for Scientific Games, who helped lead the project.

State-owned Lotto Baden-Württemberg is the third largest of the 16 German state lotteries and generates nearly €1 billion in annual revenues; Scientific Games is a provider to all 16 lotteries in Germany.
