Independent Scottish bookmaker Scotbet has joined the Senet Group, which advances responsible gaming throughout the U.K. In keeping with Senet rules, said Scotbet Chairman John Heaton, “We have withdrawn all advertising of gaming machines from shop windows and will be devoting 20 percent of window advertising to responsible gambling messages.
The Senet Group was formed last year in response to growing criticism of fixed-odds betting terminals. The founding members are Paddy Power, William Hill, Ladbrokes and Coral.
“While most customers enjoy betting safely, it’s important that the industry plays its part in protecting vulnerable people,” Heaton said. “We look forward to working with Senet to achieve that goal.”
“We now have about 90 percent of betting shops in Scotland signed up,” added Senet Group Chairwoman Wanda Goldwag. She called it “good news for their customers and all those who want to see higher standards of responsible gambling.”
The Senet Group is open to all bookmakers in the United Kingdom.
