Ladbrokes Coral Plc in Australia Trading Director Jason Scott has been appointed to serve as interim chief executive officer, replacing Dean Shannon who will step down later this month. In addition, Greg Sedgwick has joined the firm as a non-executive director.
Earlier, Ladbrokes Australia announced in September 2016 that former Chief Operating Officer Paul Cherry would replace Shannon. But Cherry unexpectedly left in January to become a director of Division One, a new betting platform provider.
Scott, along with Cherry and Shannon, was an original member of Bookmaker.com.au, which Ladbrokes acquired in 2013 to establish its Australian subsidiary. Scott previously worked for Tatts Group.
Ladbrokes Coral Chief Executive Jim Mullen said, “Jason has sports betting in his DNA and understands the market and more importantly, the Australian business, better than anybody. His task is simple: keep the momentum in the business and keep the brand as fresh and as customer-focused as it always has been.”
Regarding Sedgwick, who works with private equity and chairs a chain of health and leisure clubs in Australia, Mullen added, “Greg is an established businessman and will be a great addition to the Australian team as a non-executive director and will give the local team support and guidance in maintaining its entrepreneurial spirit as well as introducing a level of necessary governance to the business as it grows in importance as part of the Ladbrokes Coral Group.”
