When sportsbooks in Scotland opened as expected on June 29, they can only accept bets. No lingering. No sitting down. No screening of live races. No gambling at terminals. Thank the Covid-19 restrictions for the limits.
“Confirmation will be issued in due course as to when the rest of the adult gaming industry may re-open,” Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Finance Kate Forbes said.
In a statement, GVC expressed disappointment with the limitations, according to SBC News.
“We’ve had no clear advice or guidance on re-opening our Scottish shops. This is inconsistent with our English estate which is open for business and operating strict social-distancing measures to protect our colleagues and our customers. We will continue to seek clarification from the Scottish government on this issue.”
Betting shops in England opened for business again on June 15, as long as they observed government guidelines on social distancing and protective measures such as ‘sneeze screens’ and enhanced cleaning procedures.
