Second R.I. Casino Adds Sport Betting App

The second Rhode Island casino has gone with live a Sportsbook Rhode Island betting app. It joins Twin River Casino, whose app began taking bets on September 4.

Tiverton Casino Hotel became the second casino in Rhode Island to offer the Sportsbook Rhode Island sports betting app. The first was the other casino in the state, Twin River Casino, on September 4.

Once a player visits one of the casinos to activate his or her account it can be used anywhere in the state. Activation requires showing a photo ID and activating the account in person.

Meanwhile, International Game Technology and Twin River Worldwide, which are both involved with the running of the two casinos, have so far spent a combined $512,000 to lobby state decision-makers as they battle over the contract for operating the Lottery. The money is spread between 24 lobbyists.

IGT has held the contract for several years. Governor Gina Raimondo signed a 20-year contract to extend that service for 20 years. Twin River has protested the fact that the agreement came without an open bidding process and has interjected itself into the process by offering a bid anyway as the $1 billion contract goes before the legislature.

John Marion, executive director of Common Cause Rhode Island, told the AP that this contest might be one of the largest lobbying efforts in the state’s history.
